Orientations

All members of the VCU community must attend an orientation prior to reserving the following equipment or spaces.

Scheduling an orientation

During the summer, all of our orientations are done by appointment only. To sign-up for an orientation please fill out our Summer Orientation Request form.

If you are a faculty member, student organization, or a similar group looking to schedule a class/group visit for the fall, please fill out our Instruction Session or a Tour for Groups/Classes Request Form.

Regularly scheduled orientations will return on August 23, 2026.

Makerspace orientations

  • Beginner 3D Printer (Prusa MK4S)
  • Box Stage 2: A quick scan of your face for an HD 3D model file.
  • Advanced 3D Printers (Prusa XL & Prusa CORE One+)
    • Available in June
    • Prusa MK4S 3D Printer orientation required as pre-requisite
  • Laser Cutter/Engraver (Epilog Fusion Edge)
  • Beginner Sewing Machine (Singer Heavy Duty)
  • Advanced Textile Machines (Digital Embroidery Machine & Serger)
    • Sewing Machine orientation required as pre-requisite

Production Studios

  • Audio Recording Studio: a recording studio for audio production
    • Music orientation
    • Podcast orientation
  • Simple Studio: a one-stop shop for video/audio production
  • XRAM Studio: extended reality and advanced media studio
    • Advanced media orientation (camera, lights, streaming)
    • XR (virtual reality/augmented reality) orientation

We offer guided learning with workshop-style sessions, equipment demonstrations, one-on-one assistance, and online resources, as well as a knowledgeable staff on hand to assist you.
