Expansion and Closure Information
Special Collections and Archives at Cabell Library is closed due to a major, multi‑year project. This work includes moving archival collections from the Health Sciences Library, expanding facilities and repairing the roof–all affecting the fourth floor of Cabell Library. The department will reopen in 2028 in expanded and redesigned space.
- Reference support, instruction for students and consultations are not available during this transition period.
- Some materials are available online.

Accessing and using materials
While closed, Special Collections and Archives’ onsite material are not available. VCU Libraries apologizes for any inconvenience. The closing ensures the long-term preservation of the collections during a construction project that will improve the storage and research environments. Refer to VCU Libraries’ Digital Collections for some materials.
