The Sensory Room

The Sensory Room supports the needs of neurodivergent students or other students who may have a documented need for such a space. It is equipped with items and furnishings that can create a low-sensory or high-sensory experience.

Access via VCUCard swipe is granted through the Student Accessibility and Educational Opportunity (SAEO) office. Please contact saeo@vcu.edu if you believe you have a need for the space. The room is booked by reservation. Students who have access to the space receive details for booking the room via email.

Guidelines for use of the space are:

  • The room is intended for individual use.
  • Keep the space clean and tidy.
  • Knock before entering, even if the availability indicator suggests the room is unoccupied.
  • No candles, incense, or any other flammable items are permitted. Strong fragrances are not permitted.
  • Leave the space as you found it. VCU Libraries is not responsible for unattended items. Items left behind will be taken to Lost & Found at the Information Desk.

VCU Libraries employees maintain the space and may enter periodically.
