VCU Libraries provides a range of services and support for the publication of journals, monographs, dynamic scholarly series, digital collections, open-access textbooks and other open educational resources through the VCU Publishing imprint.

Advanced Publishing Services
VCU Libraries will assist editors/authors in identifying third-party vendors to provide the following services:
- Graphic design services
- Theme planning & implementation
- Layout & typesetting of individual works
- XML creation
- Development of figures/charts/graphs
- Plagiarism detection
- Indexing
- Copyediting (light, medium or heavy copyediting for all publishing services)
- Proofreading
- Print proofs
Who is Eligible
- VCU Publishing supports university affiliates (i.e. faculty, faculty emeritus, students and staff) and community partners
- Undergraduate and graduate students require sponsorship from a department or faculty advisor.
- Community partners must be actively engaged in collaborative projects with the VCU Libraries. Examples of such projects include the creation of digital collections, research and writing for the Social Welfare History Project, works of digital scholarship, or publications that advance the goals of VCU Libraries Mission and Vision.
Access and Licensing
All works published by VCU Publishing are openly available to view, download, and read. Unlike traditional online publishers, readers do not need to register or pay to view these resources. Additionally, many of these works are openly licensed using Creative Commons Licenses. Creative Commons Licenses allow authors/editors to describe how the work may be reused. Depending on the type of publication, publication goals, and editorial decisions, readers will find a range of Creative Common Licenses.
The copyright of individual works published by VCU Publishing remains with the original creator or editorial team. Copyright holders grant VCU Libraries a non-exclusive license to display and preserve their work. Content published by VCU Publishing can be deposited by the original creator or editorial team in institutional and subject repositories.
Preservation
VCU Publishing works with APTrust and AWS to preserve digital content for long-term access and use.
