Customizing and Creating Open Educational Resources
If you can’t find an existing OER to meet your needs, you may want to make your own. Open licenses make it possible to reuse and remix existing resources to create custom learning materials that match your course needs. You can also create your own OER from scratch!
Prospective OER authors are encouraged to schedule a consultation with the Open Educational Resources Librarian. These resources are also available to help:
- Searching For Open Educational Resources Research Guide - A list of places to search for openly licensed content, including textbooks, images, and other media.
- OER Publishing Research Guide - A list of resources to aid your customization or creation process, including information about available platforms for OER publishing, accessibility best practices, resources for assessment, and a list of campus offices who may be able to support your work.
- Funding may also be available to support your work, including the VCU Affordable Course Content Awards and the state-level VIVA Open Grants.
