Canine inspection shows Cabell free of bedbugs
January 31, 2023Following a sighting Jan 19 of one bedbug in one book from the third floor of James Branch Cabell Library, the library is now reported free of any evidence of bedbugs.
Actions taken:
–The university’s pest control company, Orkin Pest Control, completed a chemical treatment of the area and emptied shelving where the book was stored. The area reopened Tuesday, Jan. 24.
–Orkin Pest Control removed from the library all books within 10 feet of the affected volume and heat treated them–the most effective way to kill bed bugs and their eggs. The books were returned to the building and reshelved the week of Jan. 23.
– In an abundance of caution, a full canine inspection of all public areas of Cabell Library took place Thursday, Jan. 26. The overnight inspection of all floors found no sign of bedbugs.
