Students needed for Health Sciences Library advisory committee

July 29, 2021

Applications accepted until noon Sept. 7: Application More information

The VCU Health Sciences Library is now accepting applications from students for positions on its 2021-22 Student Advisory Committee. This 10- to 12-member committee is an open and effective communication channel between health sciences students and the library.

The library serves VCU Health and the VCU schools of medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing and the College of Health Professions. Undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral students are eligible to serve. The group is facilitated by Health Sciences Operations Manager and Interim Head, Resource Sharing and Delivery, Stephen Barkley and Deputy Director Emily Hurst.

Committee members are responsible for reaching out to their respective communities to obtain feedback from all MCV Campus student communities to share with the committee and library representatives. Committee members are also responsible for sharing knowledge gained with peers.

A vital voice, the committee surfaces issues of concern or interest to discuss with decision-makers at VCU Libraries. Topics of discussion include services and programs as well as policies and vision for the Health Sciences Library. The committee advises library leaders about resources and services that matter to health sciences students. At meetings, speakers brief committee members on the latest information about resources and services and answer questions. In the VCU community, the committee is an active voice, advocating for students’ needs they expect VCU Libraries to meet.
