Students: Apply by May 1 for Friends of VCU Libraries scholarship

February 23, 2021

Committed to supporting VCU students in every way possible, in 2019, the Friends of VCU Libraries established an endowed scholarship to be awarded annually to a student from each campus at Virginia Commonwealth University.

The scholarship is now open for applications due by May 1, 2021. Students should apply through the VCU scholarship portal.

The Friends of VCU Libraries Scholarship supports students on the Monroe Park and MCV campuses who are juniors or seniors in undergraduate program with a GPA of 2.5 or better, and or those in a graduate program on the MCV Campus who have bachelor’s degrees from VCU.

“After an academic year with a pandemic that has affected many students’ work and class schedules, we are particularly pleased to be able to offer this needed financial assistance beginning in the fall semester 2021,” said Sharon Fuller, Friends of VCU Libraries Board Member and head of the Membership and Support Committee.

Founded initially by gifts and pledges from seven generous Board members and friends, the Friends of VCU Libraries Scholarship Endowment continues to grow and is still accepting gifts and pledges. Last year, the Friends of VCU Libraries Board elected to donate $2,500 from proceeds of the annual book sale to the fund and many board members made additional gifts as well.

As an endowed scholarship, The Friends of VCU Libraries Scholarship Endowment will hold its principal in perpetuity and pay out a small portion of interest annually as a scholarship award. With a goal of providing significant scholarship support at the $5,000 level per year to two students, the long-term plan is to grow the Scholarship to a minimum of $200,000.

Make a gift online or contact the VCU Libraries Development Office to set up a pledge payment schedule or arrange a planned gift.
