New series of free virtual library events debuts April 30

In-person events may be postponed or cancelled for the spring and into the summer, but online virtual events are popping up around the university to help people stay connected and feel engaged.

VCU Libraries' Innovative Media Workshop and Scholarly Communications department have already begun several series of weekly events, including the well-received Webinars from the Workshop and Open Chats on Data.

New to this lineup of virtual events is VCU Libraries Community Zooms, an weekly series of informal sessions designed for the community. Sessions take place on Zoom every Thursday starting at 10:30 a.m. and lasting about a half hour. Sessions will cover a variety of topics, starting with library preservation and moving on to health information, summer reading, creativity exercises, and more. The series webpage features a list of currently planned sessions. More will be added as session details are firmed up. 

All are welcome to attend. Contact the library development office at libdevelop@vcu.edu for the series URL to participate.

Celebrating Preservation Week: Collections Care Activities at VCU Libraries and Preserving Your Personal Treasures
Led by Nora Bloch
Find out how VCU Libraries protects its valuable collections of books, artifacts and art and learn how to preserve your own family treasures and documents in this session with Preservation Librarian Nora Bloch.

Finding Trusted Information About COVID-19
Led by John Cyrus, Emily Hurst, and Dana Ladd
The amount of information available on COVID-19 can be overwhelming. Librarians from the MCV Campus walk attendees through their detailed online guides packed with reliable information. They also offer tips about avoiding misinformation and factchecking health sources.

Docent-guided Virtual Tour of VCU Libraries Galleries
Led by Alice Campbell
VCU Libraries offers dozens of digital exhibits in its online gallery. Alice Campbell leads attendees through this virtual space, sharing highlights and tips on how to get the most from your own explorations.
