The Friends of VCU Libraries book sale, on hiatus during construction of the new library, is coming back April 20 with help from a new partner, the VCU Emerging Leaders Program.  

The one-day, pop up-style sale, a first, will be held 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Cabell Library Lecture Hall (Room 303).

More than 100 boxes of books will be unpacked for selling. Proceeds from the sale benefit libraries’ programs and service projects of the VCU Emerging Leaders Program.

Each year, 50 to 70 students are chosen for this program. Among them is Becky Sheridan, a first-year from Midlothian who is working on the book sale. She explains that the  leadership program “focuses on helping first-year students develop their skills and knowledge of leadership through classes, advising and service projects.”

Participants, assigned to small workgroups, take on lead roles in service projects such as the book sale. Myles Robinson, a first-year from Woodbridge, says, “This Pop-up book sale can serve as an example on how future collaborations and partnerships should be conducted. Since the Friends of the Library is an already established organization, our group easily could connect with counterparts within the Friends of VCU Libraries.”   

Friends book sale chair Nick Cooke says, "We're looking forward to our first sale working side-by-side with these student leaders and we expect a very successful sale."
