VCU Libraries launches fund to help scholars publish in open access journals
October 21, 2015VCU Libraries now offers a fund to support faculty, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students and professional students in publishing research articles in peer-reviewed journals that are freely available on the web.
These open access journals sometimes charge authors hefty fees to cover the costs of peer review and other services common to all scholarly journals. The VCU Libraries Open Access Publishing Fund will help defray those costs to scholars, thus minimizing the financial barrier to publishing in journals.
This initiative aligns with VCU Libraries’ advocacy of scholarship that is shared worldwide in openly accessible ways. The fund is open immediately for applications. The money is earmarked for journal publication but expansion to other publication formats is possible in the future.
