Scholars Compass passes 50,000 downloads milestone
December 2, 2014VCU's digital press, Scholars Compass, is getting lots of attention, more than 50,000 downloads as of Nov. 19. Its estimated use will hover close to 60,000 downloads by year's end. This is a high level of use in a short time period--less than one calendar year.
VCU Libraries did a soft launch of the institutional repository and publishing platform, Scholars Compass, in spring semester 2014 and began active promotion and recruitment of content in the fall semester.
The platform is content rich. Library staff have moved electronic theses and dissertations to the new platform and have been recruiting content from faculty. Among the items posted: undergraduate research posters; video presentations from a Latino health summit; the British Virginia project; music recitals from the School of the Arts; a featured collection for community engagement. The platform is organized so there is a home for every school and most departments on campus.
Explore Scholars Compass for research ideas and for materials to cite.
