With educational costs skyrocketing and student debt soaring, in 2019 the Friends of VCU Libraries established an endowed scholarship to ease students’ financial stress and support their success. To provide significant scholarship support at the $5,000 level per year to two students, the plan is to grow the endowment to a minimum of $200,000.
Over half of Virginia Commonwealth University students will graduate with $31,919 of debt.
The new Friends of VCU Libraries Scholarships will support one student on the Monroe Park Campus with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and one student from the MCV Campus, who is either a junior or a senior or who is a graduate student with a bachelor’s degree from VCU and a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Hear from students about how much a modest scholarship helps and what a more robust fund could do.
