Description

The world badly needs the innovation that comes from continual scientific and technical advances. And both the knowledge and the problem-solving skills of scientists are critical for every nation, no matter how rich or poor. Every society also needs a "scientific temper," the type of rationality and tolerance that stems from the central values of science: honesty, generosity, an insistence on logic and evidence and a respect for all ideas and opinions, regardless of their source of origin. Learn more as leader and advocate Bruce Alberts discusses the important role of science and science education to our future.

The event is free and open to all, but please register to join us for a light lunch from 11:15 to 11:50 a.m. in conference room 3-101 adjoining the Learning Theater. Food is not permitted in the Learning Theater, although drinks in closed containers are allowed.

About the Speaker

Bruce Alberts, Ph.D., is best known as one of the original authors of the landmark text Molecular Biology of the Cell and as former editor-in-chief of Science. He served as president of the National Academy of Sciences from 1993 to 2005 and was also a trustee of the Carnegie Corporation of New York. His work in science public policy resulted in his appointment as one of the first United States Science Envoys in 2009.
