To celebrate the importance of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and maps and their ability to connect people, regions and systems, VCU Libraries joins with hundreds of organizations around the world to mark GIS Day on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024.
The Schedule
- 11 a.m. - noon: Learn the basics of ArcGIS Online: bring your laptop to to sign up for ArcGIS Online and start exploring the tool
- noon - 12:30 p.m.: Lunch on your own, then come for the GeOreo bar as you view the map gallery and visit with our vendors
- 12:30 - 1 p.m.: Networking with local and regional organizations showcasing applications of GIS around Virginia
- 1 - 2 p.m.: Featured talks by panel participants
- 2 - 3 p.m.: Panel discussion: “GIS for community wellbeing and human health”

- 3:15 - 4 p.m.: Networking with local and regional organizations showcasing applications of GIS around Virginia

The VCU GIS Day event is sponsored by VCU Libraries with our planning partners from VCU Facilities, VCU Urban and Regional Planning, and VCU Rice Rivers Center. Special thanks to VCU Rice Rivers Center, the VCU College of Humanities and Sciences, and VAMLIS for their program sponsorship.
The event is free and open to all and will be held in person and live streamed through Zoom. Register to attend in person or online.
The in-person location will be James Branch Cabell Library, Room 303, 901 Park Ave., Richmond, Va. 23219. Parking is available for a fee in the West Broad Street, West Main Street and West Cary Street parking decks.
