Description
Student organization Eco Fashion and the Department of Fashion Design + Merchandising in VCU School of the Arts and VCU Libraries present Fashion Revolution Fashion Fixer Mending Workshop.
WORKSHOP DETAILS
Eco-fashion, The Workshop at James Branch Cabell Library, and the VCU School of the Arts Department of Fashion Design + Merchandising are in partnership to host this “Think Global Act Local” Fashion Revolution event on the anniversary of the Rana Plaza disaster.
Eco-Fashion promotes sustainable fashion and educates students on ways to be more sustainable with their clothing while raising awareness of the environmental and human impact of the fashion industry.
During this hands-on workshop, club officers will advocate the importance of slow fashion and teach students how to mend their clothes. Participants will have the opportunity to learn valuable sewing skills. There will be stations for various activities, such as button repair, garment hems, simple seam repairs, and hand-sewing techniques.
Madison Lothamer, a Fashion Revolution ambassador, will speak about the impact of Rana Plaza and Fashion Revolution. The presentation will also discuss current events in the fashion industry and offer advice on how students can make a change on an individual level.
